Abstract

Overview

The evolution of emerging technologies that use Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Field (RF-EMF) has heightened both scientific and public interest regarding potential adverse effects on human health and the environment.

NextGEM's Vision

This article outlines the NextGEM project's commitment to ensure safety for EU citizens by utilizing EMF-based telecommunications. The vision is achieved through:

  • Creating relevant knowledge for the prevention and control of RF-EMF exposure in various settings including residential, public, and occupational.
  • Ensuring conditions that promote healthful living and working environments under safe RF-EMF exposure that align with public authority regulations and laws.

Key Initiatives

NextGEM's strategic initiatives involve:

  • Development of a framework to generate scientifically relevant data on new exposure scenarios across multiple RF-EMF frequency bands.
  • Creation and validation of tools for evidence-based risk assessment.

Innovation and Knowledge Hub

The NextGEM Innovation and Knowledge Hub (NIKH) aims to offer a standardized platform for European regulatory authorities and the scientific community to:

  • Store and assess project outcomes.
  • Provide access to findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) data.
