NextGEM: Next-Generation Integrated Sensing and Analytical System for Monitoring and Assessing Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Field Exposure and Health
Abstract
Overview
The importance of safeguarding against Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Field (RF-EMF) hazards has grown with the advent of new technologies. This paper outlines the NextGEM project’s strategy to ensure the safety of EU citizens against EMF-related risks in telecommunication technologies.
Objective
NextGEM's mission involves generating essential knowledge for effective prevention and action regarding RF-EMF exposure in various environments including residential, public, and workspaces.
Methodology and Innovative Approaches
Creation of a framework to develop health-relevant scientific insights and data on exposure to RF-EMF across different frequencies. This initiative also includes formulating and validating tools necessary for evidence-based risk assessment.
NextGEM’s Contributions
- Innovation Hub: NextGEM's Innovation and Knowledge Hub (NIKH) will establish a standardized approach for European regulatory bodies and scientific communities to manage and evaluate project outputs.
- FAIR Data Principles: Ensuring that the generated data are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).
Conclusion
NextGEM pledges to integrate these frameworks and tools to support a safer living and working environment with respect to RF-EMF exposure, aligning with established regulatory standards.
