Abstract

Overview

COSMOS-France is part of the international COSMOS project aiming to study potential health effects of mobile and wireless technology usage, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurologic conditions.

Methodology

  • Study Population: 39,284 volunteers from the Constances cohort were invited; 48.4% participated, providing 18,502 usable questionnaires.
  • Data Collection: Participants reported on mobile phone usage, health conditions, and personal characteristics.

Findings

  • High prevalence of mobile phone usage at 96.1%, with detailed usage patterns related to call frequency and technology usage like VoIP and Wi-Fi.
  • Significant demographic influences on usage patterns, especially age and sex.
  • Education and smoking status correlated with usage habits, whereas BMI and handedness showed no significant associations.

Conclusion

This study provides a snapshot of contemporary mobile phone usage in France, emphasizing the influence of age and sex on usage patterns.
