Mobile phone induced cognitive and neurochemical consequences
Abstract
Overview
With technological advancements, the frequency of mobile phone use has surged, raising concerns about potential health risks. This study focused on the impact of mobile phone radiation on male Wistar rats to explore these risks.
Methodology
Subjects were divided into two groups, each comprising six rats. The control group was not exposed to radiation, while the experimental group underwent exposure to 2100 MHz microwave radiation for four hours daily over three months.
Findings
- Significant reductions were observed in cholinesterase activity, essential for proper nervous system function.
- Exposure led to decreased muscular strength and alterations in learning ability and anxiety levels.
- Notable changes were seen in the oxidative defense system and severe degeneration in the hippocampus.
- Neural degeneration was clearly evident in histopathological observations.
Conclusion
The study highlights substantial effects of microwave radiation on central nervous system integrity, potentially leading to severe health issues. Results support revisiting and possibly amending current mobile radiation guidelines to mitigate these risks.
