The effects of electromagnetic radiation (2450 MHz wireless devices) on the heart and blood tissue: role of melatonin
Abstract
Overview
This research aimed at examining the impact of 2450 MHz electromagnetic radiation (EMR) on rat's heart and blood, taking into account the potential beneficial effects of melatonin.
Materials and Methods
- Study involved 32 female Wistar Albino rats.
- Rats were divided into four groups, with varied exposures to EMR and melatonin.
Findings
Heart and Blood Tissue Response:
- In blood tissue, minor differences were noted amongst groups concerning various biomarkers.
- Significant changes were manifested in the heart tissue due to EMR exposure, which were somewhat mitigated by melatonin.
Conclusion
The study finds that EMR from wireless devices can lead to significant oxidative stress in rat hearts, while blood tissue showed lesser changes. Melatonin was somewhat effective in counteracting these effects, yet further studies are needed to fully understand this interaction.
