Evaluation of the mobile phone electromagnetic radiation on serum iron parameters in rats
Abstract
Abstract Summary: Electromagnetic Radiation Impact on Serum Iron in Rats
Overview
The study investigates the effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF), generated by mobile phones, on various iron parameters in rats. Concerns have been raised about the potential harmful impacts of EMF exposure from mobile phones on biological systems.
Objective
The aim of the research is to determine how EMF influenced serum iron level, ferritin, unsaturated iron binding capacity, and total iron binding capacity in a rat model.
Methodology
- 32 male Wistar albino rats were used.
- Groups included control, sham, mobile phone speech (2h/day), and standby (12 h/day).
- The duration of exposure was 10 weeks.
Findings
The study found that while there were no significant changes in serum iron and ferritin, there was a significant decrease in unsaturated and total iron binding capacity in the mobile phone exposed groups compared to control.
Conclusion
Exposure to EMF from mobile phones could negatively affect unsaturated iron binding capacity and total iron binding capacity, while serum iron and ferritin levels remained stable. This suggests potential adverse effects of mobile phone radiation on these specific iron parameters.
