Abstract

Overview

In recent years, personal exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields (RF-EMF) has risen drastically. Unlike prior studies primarily based in Europe, this research is pioneering in utilizing personal exposimeters in Mexico.

Findings

  • The study's main objective was to gauge personal exposure to RF-EMF from Wi-Fi in different microenvironments in Tamazunchale, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
  • Diverse microenvironments were being tested, including homes, workplaces, outdoors, schools, during travel and shopping, involving 63 volunteers.
  • Recorded exposure levels ranged from 116.8 μW/m2 at home to 499.7 μW/m2 in the workplace for Wi-Fi 2G and 5G bands respectively.
  • Varying exposure by time of day was noted, with maximums during daytime.

Conclusion

Although measured values did not surpass the limits set by the ICNIRP, the Tamazunchale population exhibits significant concerns about RF-EMF exposure. Public education on exposure results alters risk perception slightly.
