Abstract

Overview

The inception and growth of mobile communication technologies have driven the need for comprehensive assessments concerning the potential health risks associated with radio-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMF). While existing assessments adhere to safety levels preventing tissue heating, they typically cover frequencies only up to 6 GHz.

Current Findings

  • The high-band frequencies of 5G New Radio (25–39 GHz) are currently under-studied, raising concerns about their long-term effects on human health.
  • There is an urging need for thorough biostudies concerning the RF EMF impact at these higher frequencies.
  • Scientific advances and tightly controlled experiments are encouraged to explore the bioeffects of these frequencies.

Conclusion

Given the sparse data on high-band 5G frequencies and existing concerns highlighted by preliminary studies, robust research guidelines are suggested to mitigate potential risks. The emphasis is on prioritizing high-quality scientific research to understand the biological impacts of RF energy at millimeter wave frequencies used by future communication technologies.
