Abstract

Overview

This study investigates the oxidative damage and potential protective effects of folic acid on rat kidneys post-exposure to 900 MHz EMR, commonly emitted by cell phones.

Findings

  • Adult male Wistar albino rats were assigned to four groups: control, EMR, EMR + FA, and FA only. Groups exposed to EMR were subjected to 60 minutes of 900-MHz frequency radiation daily for 21 days.
  • Significant increases in the volume of various kidney components in EMR-exposed groups were observed, along with a decrease in the total number of glomeruli compared to the control group.
  • Folic Acid (FA) showed protective effects against EMR-induced damage, preserving the number of glomeruli.

Conclusion

The findings suggest that exposure to 900-MHz EMR can lead to kidney damage, while folic acid potentially provides protective effects against the harmful impact of electromagnetic radiation. This underscores the potential health risks posed by EMR and the protective role certain substances may play.
