Abstract

Overview

Many voices contribute to the current narrative about the health effects of 5G technologies. Understanding the backgrounds and potential motives of researchers and public spokespersons is essential in evaluating these perspectives. Previous analyses, such as that by de Vocht and Albers, have used a limited investigative focus, resulting in the undermining of both public concern and researchers’ intentions. Importantly, these past reviews often neglected to address biases, conflicts of interest, and flaws present even in so-called "independent" appraisals.

Findings

  • There is a need for a more evidence-based approach when appraising public opinion on 5G health effects.
  • This review analyzes Australian data reflecting public voices and examines the scientific expertise of recent author-spokespersons, specifically related to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields and health.
  • The study aims to bring clarity regarding the quality and motives of individuals shaping the 5G conversation.

Conclusion

The article concludes by presenting key questions that should be addressed. Answering these will help scientists better advise policymakers on issues related to 5G technologies and public health, ensuring that decisions take into account a full spectrum of expert opinions and public concerns regarding electromagnetic field exposure and potential health risks.
