Abstract

Overview

With the expansion of mobile communication networks and the onset of 5G/6G technologies, there is a critical urgency to evaluate the effects of new radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) on wildlife.

Findings

  • The need for robust research into the impact of RF-EMF on wildlife.
  • Existing protection guidelines focus only on human health and neglect wildlife considerations.
  • Recommendations for protecting wildlife from RF-EMF exposure include strategic spatial planning, emission limitation strategies, and technical adjustments.

Conclusion

The study proposes a global research agenda and forming an international body to oversee the protection of wildlife from RF-EMF. It concludes with a call to integrate adaptive management strategies to enhance knowledge and mitigate risks associated with RF-EMF exposure while supporting the coexistence of wildlife and advancing wireless technology.
