Assessment of the Electromagnetic Radiation Exposure at Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities

Overview
The increasing prevalence of electric vehicles (EV) brings a corresponding increase in EV charging stations. This proximity raises vital concerns regarding the electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure from these chargers, making its assessment a significant health issue.
Findings
- The study evaluated EMF exposure for six different EV chargers.
- Measurements and analysis of EMF were conducted, comparing them against the ICNIRP guidelines.
- Standard chargers exhibited higher EMF levels compared to fast chargers.
- For fast chargers, the magnetic field intensity increased with the charging current.
- The highest levels of EMF exposure were seen with Standard Stand-type B handle at 430 V/m electric field and a standard wall-mounted charger at 46 A/m magnetic field.
- None of the chargers' EMF levels exceeded international health safety standards.
Conclusion
Results highlight the importance of continuous monitoring and standardization of EMF exposure levels in EV charging technology to comply with health safety guidelines, and echo the need for further research into the correlation between EMF levels and charging states in EV chargers.
