Abstract

Overview

The study focuses on the effects of local natural perturbations in the geomagnetic field on the circadian patterns of locomotor activity in zebrafish.

Findings

  • A decrease in zebrafish swimming speed was noted during geomagnetic disturbances that occurred before or after the fluctuations of diurnal geomagnetic variation.
  • When geomagnetic perturbations coincided with normal diurnal variations, the decrease in swimming speed was minimal.

Conclusion

This research highlights the significant interactions between geomagnetic disturbances and biological circadian rhythms, suggesting that synchronization with diurnal geomagnetic variations is crucial. It underpins the strong link between geomagnetic activity and disruptions in circadian biorhythms, potentially impacting broader medical and biological parameters.
