Abstract

Overview

In recent years, plasma oncology has been a growing field of study, focusing on the underlying mechanisms through detailed experiments. This study leverages computational methods to investigate the changes in protein structure under specific conditions.

Findings

  • The research primarily examines the effects of plasma oxidation and electric fields on mitochondrial heat shock protein (mHsp60).
  • Molecular dynamic simulations were used to measure changes in root-mean-square deviation, fluctuation, and solvent-accessible surface area of mHsp60.
  • Results indicate that electric fields have a more significant impact on mHsp60 structure than oxidation alone. Combination of both treatments further destabilizes the protein structure.

Conclusion

The study concludes significant alterations in mHsp60 involving specific amino acids, which contribute to structural flexibility and rigidity under varying treatment conditions. This could influence cell integrity and progression of diseases linked to protein homeostasis.
