The Adverse Effect of Mobile Phone Radiations on Dorsal Root Ganglion of Albino Rats
Abstract
Overview
The study investigates the impact of Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Radiation (RF-EMR) from mobile phones on the histological structure of dorsal root ganglia in albino rats.
Methods
- Sample: Twenty-four albino rats.
- Design: Divided into one control and three experimental groups.
- Duration: Four weeks of exposure.
- Exposure: Missed calls at different levels (80, 120, and 160 calls per day) using a GSM mobile phone operating between 0.9 GHz to 1.8 GHz in silent mode.
Findings
Significant histological changes in dorsal root ganglia were observed in rats exposed to RF-EMR compared to control. These changes include:
- Reduction in cell size.
- Condensation of cytoplasm.
- Peripherally located heterochromatin nucleus.
- Loss of nucleolus.
- Densely packed myelinated nerve fibers.
Conclusion
Exposure to RF-EMR induced severe dose-dependent histomorphological changes in dorsal root ganglionic cells of albino rats. These findings raise concerns regarding the safeness of prolonged mobile phone usage and its potential detrimental effects on neural structures.
