Effect of radiation emitted from mobile phone on bone marrow haematopoietic stem cell in mice
Abstract
Overview
The study investigates the impact of mobile phone radiation on bone marrow haematopoietic stem cells in 160 male BALB/C mice, examining the effects of different durations of radiation exposure.
Methodology
- Mice were split into four groups: blank control, control, TD-SCDMA, and LTE-Advanced, with exposure periods ranging from 2 to 8 weeks.
- Apoptotic and micronuclei rates, and changes to the subpopulations of bone marrow haematopoietic stem cells and T lymphocyte subsets were measured.
Findings
Initial results (up to 4 weeks of exposure) showed no significant changes in apoptosis or micronucleus rates across all groups. However, prolonged exposure (6 to 8 weeks) in both TD-SCDMA and LTE-Advanced groups indicated increased apoptosis and micronuclei formation.
Conclusion
Extended mobile phone radiation can lead to significant cellular changes such as increased apoptosis and micronucleus formation in bone marrow haematopoietic stem cells in mice, highlighting potential long-term health risks.
