Abstract

Overview

The study addresses the significant question regarding the association between cell phone use and the potential risk of developing tumors in the parotid glands. The purpose is to synthesize existing findings through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Methods

  • Investigation into the primary association between cell phone usage and the development of parotid gland tumors.
  • Inclusion of studies without restrictions on publication date, language, and place of publication.
  • A systematic literature search employed databases like PubMed, Scielo, and Embase.

Findings

Through the analysis of three independent case-control studies involving 5087 subjects, the study found:

  • An odds ratio of 1.28 (95% confidence interval 1.09 - 1.51) indicating a higher likelihood of developing a salivary gland tumor with cell phone use.

Conclusion

While there is an indicated risk, results caution interpretation due to the limited number of studies and their retrospective design highlighting the need for more definitive future studies to substantiate these findings.
