Medicinal plants in mitigating electromagnetic radiation-induced neuronal damage: a concise review
Abstract
Overview
Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) exposure, especially from mobile phones, is considered by some epidemiological evidence to possibly increase the risk of brain and glandular tumors. The International Agency for Research on Cancer categorized mobile phone radiation as possibly carcinogenic. As mobile phones are now a fundamental part of daily life, exposure to EMR is almost inevitable.
Findings
- The practice of using medicinal plants like Green tea polyphenols, Ginkgo biloba, and others, which possess neuroprotective properties, is proposed as an effective approach to counteract the harmful effects of EMR.
- These plants have properties such as free radical scavenging and antioxidant support, making them potential agents in maintaining brain health against EMR-induced damage.
Conclusion
Considering the growing concern over EMR exposure, further advanced research in cellular and clinical models is essential to establish these plants' protective effectiveness against neuronal damage from EMR fully.
Key plants like Green tea polyphenols are highlighted for their widespread consumption and non-toxic nature, making them ideal candidates for research focus and potential preventive treatment against EMR-induced brain damage.
