Electromagnetic fields as a health risk factor
Abstract
Overview
This study summarizes findings from published articles investigating the epidemiology of electromagnetic fields, particularly focusing on their health impacts.
Findings
- The research encompasses 13 principal publications over 14 years, with a primary focus on radio frequency signals from mobile phones (standards GSM900 and GSM1800).
- One study was dedicated to developing a new exposure system while another investigated low-frequency electromagnetic fields.
- Impact reported includes alterations in heart rate variability, influences on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and potential symptoms such as heart rhythm disorders, concentration loss, headaches, and burning sensations near the ear.
Conclusion
Although exposure parameters did not exceed the limits set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), they surpassed those recommended by the BioInitiative Report, indicating potential health risks.
