Abstract

Overview

The study explores the potential health effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) emitted by mobile phones, specifically focusing on their impact on the auditory system in young adults.

Findings

  • Objective: To assess the impact of mobile phone use on hearing abilities in young adults.
  • Participants: 75 medical students, all regular mobile phone users for over a year.
  • Methods: Subjects underwent auditory assessments using Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA), Otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and Brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) at enrollment, 6 months, and one year.
  • Results: Initial assessments showed no significant changes in hearing thresholds over time, suggesting no short-term effects on hearing due to mobile phone use.

Conclusion

While no immediate effects were observed, the potential long-term impact on hearing as the subjects age remains a concern and warrants further investigation.
