Overview

This study examines the potential electromagnetic interference caused by newer iPhone models equipped with MagSafe technology on the Inspire upper airway stimulator device.

Findings

• The study specifically focuses on iPhones 12 and 13 and their interaction with a surgical implant used in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
• Concerns are raised regarding the safety implications of this interference, highlighting the need for awareness and precautionary measures in individuals implanted with such medical devices.

Conclusion

The presence of strong magnetic fields in smartphones could pose risks to patients utilizing electromagnetic-sensitive implants, suggesting an urgent review of device usage guidelines and patient advisories.
