Abstract

Overview

A new type of low loss surface electromagnetic wave, termed an "interfacial wave," is demonstrated to exist at the junction between different lossy conductive media. This innovative wave can travel distances up to 500 meters at 10 kHz frequency, making it viable for underwater communication and imaging along a seabed.

Findings

  • Surface electromagnetic waves can propagate over significant distances (approx. 500m at 10 kHz).
  • These waves have potential applications in radio communications and imaging, particularly in underwater environments.
