In-vivo measurement of radio frequency electric fields in mice brain
Abstract
Overview
With ongoing advancements in technology, exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy is increasing, across various wavelengths and power levels. This necessitates innovative approaches for measuring RF fields particularly in complex living tissues.
Findings
- The study introduces a novel technique for direct in-vivo measurement of electric fields in living tissues.
- Proof of principle experiments were conducted using Bismuth Silicon Oxide (BSO) crystals in rodent brains.
- Different levels of RF energy were explored and the measurements were calibrated and verified.
- Verification was complemented by in-vivo temperature measurements with optical temperature fibers and electromagnetic field simulations using a transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cell.
Conclusion
This method is a cornerstone for environmental health considerations, addressing the impacts of non-ionizing radiation energy, a growing concern with the proliferation of RF energy in the environment.
