Three-dimensional monitoring of RBC sedimentation in external magnetic fields
Abstract
Overview
The increasing prevalence of external magnetic fields due to electronic devices poses important questions about their effects on biological systems.
Findings
- Digital Holographic Microscopy (DHM) was employed to track 3D movements and sedimentation patterns of red blood cells (RBCs) in veins subjected to external magnetic fields.
- The study shows that the magnetic fields enhance the sedimentation rate of RBCs especially when close to walls, theorized to be influenced by magnetic-sensitive components within the cells.
Conclusion
This research indicates the significant impact of external magnetic fields on the behavior of biological cells, which could lay a foundation for further biological and medical studies.
