John Coates on lesser-known facts about cell-phone radiation & SAR
A well-engineered case reduces near-body exposure by enforcing correct orientation and better habits. It cannot repair a system held to heat-only, 1996-era limits, preempted local voices, and stalled federal obligations. We fight to update the rules and pivot indoor connectivity to light — while helping you protect your family today.
No percentage claims. Real-life reduction = orientation + antenna behavior + duty cycle.
Radiation protection starts from first principles. If you understand why the QuantaCase® exists, you’ll know how to use it correctly, which policies must change, and what technologies to prefer indoors. Today there’s a grave mismatch between the state of science and the state of policy. The fix is a focused roadmap we call the Clean Ether Act.
Guidelines are thermal; biology is electrical. Real-world pulsed/modulated signals mis-time ion channels (forced oscillation of VGICs), spiking ROS — a core driver of disease. The federal standard ignores that pathway; the court already remanded the FCC to address biology; HHS has a statutory duty to run a radiation program. So we move the policy, now.
1) The current guidelines were never proven biologically safe. U.S. limits were engineered in the 1990s to prevent heating (SAR), not to protect living systems from the electrical effects of pulsed, modulated signals that run day and night. They do not account for simultaneous radios (Wi-Fi + cellular + Bluetooth), real-world duty cycle, poor-signal power ramps, or children’s physiology. You can comply with the number and still overload biology. That is not protection; it’s an artifact of testing.
2) They already lost in court. In 2021, the D.C. Circuit ruled the FCC’s decision to keep 1996 limits “arbitrary and capricious” for failing to address non-thermal effects and children, and remanded it. A federal court told the agency to redo its homework with modern biology on the table. The public is still waiting.
3) The preponderance of research points to biological risk. The strongest, most consistent signal is oxidative stress (OS) at non-thermal intensities, across animals, cells, and models — reported by a large majority of RF studies. That’s what preponderance of the evidence looks like, and it lines up with a mechanistic pathway we already understand.
Ion-channel forced oscillation (IFO-VGIC). Real-world wireless signals are pulsed and modulated. Those envelopes nudge voltage-gated ion channels (especially Ca²⁺ and Na⁺) off tempo — an electrical timing error, not a heat rise. Mistimed Ca²⁺ spikes drive mitochondria and membrane enzymes to overproduce reactive-oxygen species (ROS). ROS is the universal amplifier of pathology: where oxidative stress fuels disease — plaque formation, DNA breaks, neuro-inflammation, immune mis-cues — extra ROS accelerates it. That’s why risk signals appear across systems and why a thermal metric cannot adjudicate electrical harm.
| Misleading claim or feature | TruthCase™ principle |
|---|---|
| “99% protection everywhere” from a fabric swatch | Orientation & duty cycle rule reality. Put the shield between you & the phone; teach habits. |
| Metal loops, magnet plates, thick 360° wraps | Don’t detune antennas. Phones raise transmit power to hold the link. |
| Large unshielded ear-side speaker hole | Maintain continuity at the ear. No big aperture where you need reduction most. |
| Vague or no usage guidance | Teach the playbook. Calling posture, pocket orientation, distance, night discipline. |

Act now: enforce Public Law 90-602, complete the FCC court remand, and restore local rights by repealing §704. Pilot Li-Fi (IEEE 802.11bb) indoors.
SAR is thermal compliance; real exposure depends on orientation, duty cycle, simultaneous radios, signal quality, and antenna efficiency.

Multiple radios + poor RF → higher UE transmit power (worse real-world dose than the lab number suggests).
No slogans. Real exposure depends on orientation, antenna behavior, and duty cycle — not a fabric number.
They can detune antennas; phones raise power to hold the link — the opposite of safety.
Yes — antenna-aware, ohmmeter-verifiable, usage-guided.
