Among many other studies, in 1997 a team of scientists in
CUA’s laboratories exposed 3000 chicken embryos to EMFs.
They found that: "Steady,
oscillating EMFs increase the rate of neural abnormalities in
embryos by a factor of approximately 2.5". Images

Pictures (a)-(d) show normal, unexposed embryos

(h) is a transverse section at the level of the
hindbrain for embryo (a) as indicated by line (h)
in picture (a). This brain is normal.

(e)-(g) and (i) show neural tube and brain defects
induced by electromagnetic fields. In (e)-(g) arrows
indicate neural folds of open neural tubes in the spinal cord.
This is an abnormality known in humans as spina bifida or
anencephaly.
The hindbrain shown in (i) of embryo (g) is
abnormal - totally flattened - compared to the normal brain
shown in (h).
There is a biochemical
explanation to this. EMFs significantly change the activity of
the important growth enzyme ODC (also related to cancer),
making the availability of the enzyme inappropriate at
critical stages in the development of the embryos. For
example, during neurolation (formation of the neural tube) the
activity of the enzyme is too little, causing the incomplete
closure of the neural tube on the chicken embryos shown above!
Birth defects are the single
leading cause of infant mortality in the United States. Two
common defects of the central nervous system contribute
substantially to this total. These defects are anencephaly and
spina bifida which are defects of neural tube closure or
Neural Tube Defects (NTDs). NTDs are malformations of the
developing brain and spinal cord and have an average
prevalence rate of NTDs is 1 per 1,000. They are caused by a
failure in the process of neural tube closure. Under normal
conditions, the nervous system forms a closed tube after 4
weeks of gestation. But for unknown reasons, sometimes the
neural walls do not fuse or become enlarged. This can result
in both major or minor birth defects.
This issue of
NTD's must review what is known about the relationship
between environmental and occupational exposures and NTDs.
Mothers employed in industry, transport, and communication;
and fathers employed as, printers, plastic production workers,
and those exposed to low-level radiation. Studies have found
evidence that exposure to EMF's is associated with an
increased incidence of NTD's.
I think any
loss of life as a result of someone’s increased convenience or
industrial profit is simply not acceptable!
Cell phones and wireless
products without necessary controls adversely put the publics
health at risk. I think the key to maintaining a balance
of risk to reward is the safeguards we mandate. Like
driving, laws must be made and enforced, and like motor
vehicles – equipment must meet strict guidelines for consumer
safety!
Overall we have adopted
the internationally accepted ALARA approach “As
Low As
Reasonably
Achievable”
The
ALARA concept itself grows out of our assumption that any
radiation exposure carries with it some risk. Since living a
modern lifestyle entails radiation exposure is sometimes part
of some beneficial endeavor, the ALARA effort is related to
balancing the assumed risks of radiation exposure against the
benefit of performing the task. So “reasonable” in this
context means that the risk from receiving the exposure is
“worth” the net benefit of the activity. An extension of this
philosophy would be the statement that
“There should not be any
exposure if technically possible to avoid it!
In other words, ALARA means
preventing
unnecessary
exposure as well as overexposure. Now, the last thing we
want to do is to look so deep into a problem that we over look
the obvious. Driving and wireless products can be ingredients
for certain disaster! That’s why education and Legislation
supporting cell phone safety while driving must ride along
with our immediate RF Safe goals.

Below is a
quick summery of why you should avoid induced RFR intercellular
interference!
In fact
although DNA is indispensable for the life of the cell,
outside of the context of the living cell and the
intercellular communications network, DNA is basically inert.
Memory exists at 2 levels: the memory of the species, which
consists of the unchangeable DNA on one hand, and the active
memory or short-term memory of each cell, which is its
metabolic state at each instant. Enzymes constitute the
short-term memory of the cell, its identity, and the network
of indicators of what is going to happen. It is the same for
the intercellular communications network.
In fact DNA
is indispensable to the life of the cell: during apoptosis, or
programmed cell death, in which endonuclease enzymes which
digest the cell's own DNA are activated, thus rendering the
DNA unusable. DNA is necessary for life, it is a matrix which
is read and interpreted by the cell according to its own
identity, its own biochemical context and its environment. The
identity of a differentiated cell is maintained by its
metabolism; a cell which loses control of its regulation
dedifferentiates and loses its identity. Enzymes activate or
inhibit the metabolic and differentiation pathways in which
the cell may engage: some enzymes regulate the expression of
genes and the synthesis of proteins from the DNA template
(both structural proteins and the enzymes themselves); while
others enzymes catalyse metabolic reactions, anabolic, in
which products required by the cell are synthesized, and
catabolic in which substrates are degraded to elementary
subunits with production of energy.
Intercellular communications are mainly conducted by secreted
proteins (ex: hormone, growth factors, cytokines, antibodies)
and exogenous ligands (ex: antigen). These circulating
substances transmit a signal to competent cells using
trans-receptor proteins as intermediaries; the signal is then
relayed to the interior of the cell by transduction by an
enzymes cascade. The signal may be transmitted to the nuclear
by transcription factors which provoke the expression or
repression of a gene, or to the cytoplasm where a metabolic
pathway may be activated or inactivated. Without the enzymes
to promote a given pathway, reactions would occur, but would
proced so slowly that the products of of a given reaction
might be degraded before they could serve as substrates for
the next reaction of the pathway. The progression of enzymes
that serve as catalysts for a metabolic pathway form a code
which switch on or off, these enzymes form the code for the
metabolic pathway or word of the language.
Molecules
interact by contact and chemical interactions, a binding
between two molecules may produce activation or inhibition of
the catalytic site of one of the two molecules. This usually
involves
allosteric alteration or covalent
modification by phosphorilation. An enzyme can be
described by these 2 sites: the catalytic site and the
allosteric site. An inhibitor may bind to the catalytic site
and block it (isosteric modification, inhibition of the
catalytic site by an analog of the substrate) or to the
allosteric site and cause a change in conformation which will
activate the catalytic site. An enzyme which catalyse covalent
binding (interconversion), usually by phosphorilation or
dephosphorilation, of another enzyme may cause activation or
inactivation of the latter. If the "activation or
inactivation" was caused by made made changes on the genetic
material's EM environment, cellular defects are favorable
(Cancer, DNA Damage and birth defects)!
