virginia VA Cell Phone Laws: Legislation for laws requiring hands free cell phone usage are going in effect all over the USA! Ironically, it has been proven headsets often increase radiation exposure when not  shielded or used properly.
Prohibits the use of wireless telecommunications devices by persons less than 18 years old while operating motor vehicles.

Prohibits the driver of a motor vehicle from using a hand-held wireless communication devices while the vehicle is in motion unless the driver is using a hands-6.00 device. Violators subject to $25 penalty. Requires law enforcement agencies to maintain a record of hand-held wireless communication device related accidents.

Cell phone, text messaging news: All distracted driving legislation 117-202 exam before the 2010 General Assembly session appears dead. Several sought to upgrade the current text messaging law to “primary enforcement” status, meaning law officers need no other reason to halt and cite drivers. Several bills planned to add a ban on handheld cell phones to the texting law, enacted last summer. 642-415 exam
Current prohibitions: All drivers are banned from text messaging.
Drivers under the age of 18 are prohibited from using cell phones or text messaging.
School bus drivers are prohibited from using cell phones or text messaging 642-731 exam
2010 legislation Virginia Senate Bill 517: Adds use of handheld cell phones to existing texting law and upgrades enforcement to primary status. Fines from $100 to $200. Approved by the Senate on Feb. 2 but tabled by the House subcommittee on Militia, Police and Public Safety on Feb. 24. Bill appears dead for the year. (Norment) 642-975 exam
