Despite the absence of scientific proof that cellular communication towers cause health problems for people living nearby, the Israeli Forum for Cellular Sanity is working to force cellular companies to minimize exposure to radiation.
A spokesman for the non-profit group told Haaretz that the organization believes in limiting exposure because cellular communication is relatively new. Advertisement
Therefore, not enough medical records exist regarding exposure in order to determine whether radiation emitted by cellphone towers is dangerous.
The forum is working nationwide to limit exposure for populations considered high-risk, such as children. In parallel, it is promoting stricter standards from cellular companies, and decreasing the signal strength of towers near population centers.
Two month ago, a research project called Bioinitiative, which was prepared by an international group of scientists and professionals, cited the growing number of health problems reported by people living near cellular towers.
The reports included sleep problems, fatigue, memory loss, nausea and diminished sight.
The complaints came from people who lived two kilometers to a few hundred meters from cellular towers.
